If the picture shows up, you'll see a picture of Jess who was very proud of the words she spelled today.

We'll do more tomorrow. By way of review I was thinking to have her glue the word strips to a paper.

Rambling Thoughts Ahead

BEWARE!

 We are eagerly awaiting news on Bob Martin's performance in the Club
Nationals Tri this morning! I spun up an ounce of alpaca while kids
had electronics time. Now trying to motivate the three of us through
morning routines while it is still morning. LOL! Maybe we'll do some
fishing this afternoon. It rained a bit last night so maybe bite will
be on. Need to wash me and my one set of running clothes so I can get
them sweaty again today. :\ My "long" run of 4 whole miles awaits.
Oooh! I think there's one more cup of coffee in the pot...

Math Today

Not such a good math day. Sam didn't do as well as he thought he did.
Tried to explain that math is a "language" in hopes that would help
his outlook. Maybe it will eventually. Not so much at the moment. He
confused "value" and "digit" which changed the format of his answers
BUT he did know where to look within the string of numbers. So I think
that is a good sign and this is only a minor issue of learning new
vocabulary. ;)

Back in the Saddle

Today was our first day of formal studies for the 2009 - 2010 school year. Can I just say that I am completely wiped out? We didn't get to everything but we did get to a lot. We hit the major subjects. Both had meltdowns at one point or another. Sigh. But it all ended well and with smiles.

Tomorrow is another exciting day. We're looking forward to getting back into Barbara's art and music appreciation program. I hope to find the time to tell you more about it. :) But now I'm off to get dinner going and mebbe fix myself a cuppa tea.

Math Help

So I'm doing this word problem with Sam. I have the answer but I don't
know WHY it is the answer. Can any of you out there in cyberspace
help?

 Here is the question:
Sarim has $1 in coins. One-fifth of the coins are dimes,
two-fifteenths are nickels, and two-thirds are pennies. Tell how many
of each coin he has.

 The answer:
6 dimes; 4 nickels; 20 pennies; making 30 coins

 Now that makes sense because all the fractions work into the total
number of coins nicely. (i.e. 1/5 of 30 is 6... pennies) But how would
I have attacked this problem and more importantly (to me) why would I
do it that way...

 Anyone?

New Fishing Record

Last night Sam caught a bass that was just shy of 2 pounds. The new family record! We also caught a few catfish but they were smallish and we let them go. Also found a bait shop closer to the house that sells bait cheaper than BP.

Sam is totally hooked on fishing now. Yay!

Oh man what a fishing experience! We fished until 9:30 pm. I neglected to bring flashlights so that was interesting because I could not see a thing!

Sam made the haul tonight. A catfish (caught right as we were leaving) and a bass caught an hour before. He is quite pleased and his sister is miffed that his fish are bigger than hers. ;)

Thankfully I picked up an inexpensive fillet knife today. I think it helped a little. ;)

They want to go back tomorrow evening too. O_o

Too tired to type more... must. sleep. now.

We Did It ALL

Today's agenda: dog park, people park, lunch, swimming, dinner, fishing.

 Yep. We did all that in one day.

 Went to Bass Pro before fishing to pick up minnows. They were out so
the nice gentleman at the counter gave us 4 ginourmous goldfish...
free because they were out of those minnows.

 How did he know that Jessie would catch a good sized bass (on a
rickety old pole) with one of them? I think it was a scam. ;)

 So now we have to go fishing tomorrow... with goldfish... to catch
more bass 'coz you can't have a fish fry with just one fish.

 Yep, I've been scammed.

 PS... would have a picture but I used my phone and can't seem to get
it to connect to the new puter. :\
